DSPy Retrieval Loops
A conceptual note on DSPy-style retrieval and prompting loops, emphasizing evaluation objectives and the evidence needed to establish an improvement.
DSPy Retrieval Loops is a conceptual design note on coupling retrieval, prompting, and evaluation. No implementation or optimization report is linked here; it does not assert that a retrieval or answer-quality improvement was reproduced.
The interesting part was not simply prompt tuning. It was the interaction between retrieval behavior and downstream reasoning. A system can fail because it retrieves the wrong evidence, because it frames the right evidence poorly, or because the optimization target is not aligned with actual usefulness. DSPy makes those dependencies easier to expose.
A candidate loop would distinguish retrieval quality, answer construction, and the objective being optimized. A held-out protocol and per-query diagnostics would be needed to interpret changes honestly.
This note identifies design questions rather than a final prompt or performance result. The listed tools are design vocabulary; implementation provenance, data, and evaluation artifacts remain necessary evidence.
